Doll Of The Month – January 2015

I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on as “Doll of the month”.

Here in January doll of the month is this baby and it is also meant to be a model for my next course and that means that it is not for sale right now.

It is something special to work with a baby and be sure it gets the right proportions and the right expression. I need to shorten all the parts of the body and make the upper part of the head much bigger than on my usual dolls and then it also needs to get extra big cheeks. It is also important to find a good position for it, either lying or sitting.

The baby-doll you see here, was made, when I had my latest student Alexandra from Germany at my workshop, so she learned how to make a baby by following the needling of my baby step by step.

Right now I am also working on a group of babies for an American firm and it means that I need to find several different ways of making the baby doll.

This doll is a little bigger than my usual dolls. In this sitting position it is 22 cm.

I’ve just started to learn felting and it is something with which I’ve become nearly obsessed! I love looking at your work, especially the dolls. Kay Petal does amazing sculptures, too. Just wanted to let you know how much appreciated your postings are!
