My student Pippa Sweeney from Ireland has now finished her “one to one” course at my studio.
The theme she has learned, was to needle felt a head and a hand in life size –and needle them onto a big piece of raw fleece. The finished result, when you use that technique is, that you get a big wall hanging or even a thing that can be used for acting in a theatre play. Rather quick in the process the head showed up to look like a Viking, so therefore Pippa worked on with that idea and she started to learn to make the shadows and it became even more  obvious that the face looked like a Viking. When the beard of the Viking was made, it seemed natural to plait it. Making the hand takes a rather long time, but much of that time was used on making fun with the hand because it is so much alive to look at in different situations.
