I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as “Doll of the month”.
The doll of the month this September is not for sale because it is part of a project I am working on, but I want to show it to you.
As many times before the wool inspired me to this project. It is spelsau and it is a rather course wool that has a wonderful red brown color. In fact it is a piece of wool from another project that was left and when I saw it lying at my working table I got the idea for the project.
The technique is the same I use when I make a human being – I make all the parts of the body, head, upper arm, lower arm and so on and needle them together in the position I want the figure to have. For this orangutan it was fun to “play” with the length of the arms and legs and then I worked with the idea that he should be a baby-orangutan.
