Doll Of The Month – May 2013

I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as “Doll of the month”.

Doll of the month in May is made with the technique I call “soft granite”. I have used raw wool from the Gotland sheep and at first I make the wool loose for the whole doll by spreading the fibers in each staple and that makes the wool airy and easy to work with. That means that I do not card the wool but use it directly to shape with.

For this doll I have first made all the parts of the body and then needled them together in the position I wanted the doll to sit. On the surface of the doll I have then needled certain shapes on and after that continued working on the surface with little dots of wool just like you could imagine to  do with a doll made of clay.

The interesting thing by working this way is that this mix of wool gives a very special stone-like surface, and the wool is very movable while you shape it.

The doll is 50 cm high and the price is $ 250. This includes shipping. Only the one dolls is available so if you click on the “Buy Now”-link and the dolls has already been sold you will get an error message.

Click below if you would like to buy the doll. You will be taken to the website of PayPal where you can pay by credit card (you don’t need a PayPal-account).
