I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as “Doll of the month”.
Doll of the month for August is a work I have just finished for exhibition.
It is the back of a “floating” chair, where you can find portraits of a row of women from a family that has its origin in Lapland.
I have used a new technique that I developed while I worked with the two first chairs that I made together with my friend this winter/spring.
The technique is, that the portraits are needle felted on a special kind of background, that is transparent so the faces can be seen as if they are floating out in the room. So when the chair hangs from the ceiling it looks like the faces are floating free in the room. I know it is very difficult to see on the photos so you must try to imagine. Finding such an effect has given me a lot of inspiration to work on with it.
The finished chair is not for sale.
