I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as "Doll of the month".

The doll of the month is this crazy pink bird that was a lot of fun to make. Again it was the wool that was the inspiration. Some time ago one of my students sent me this pink wool and I knew that I wanted to make a crazy bird from that. She had bought the wool from a Danish designer who is famous for his rocking lambs (horses) and for many years he has made these with white or brown lamb´s skin, but then lately he started to make them with pink and neon green wool too and the wool I used for the bird is waste from the rocking lamb.

I started to make the basic body and for that I used very appropriate wool that I got from Elina Saari this summer when I was teaching by her in Finland. It is finn wool that is specially good to shape with. The legs and the beak have wire in them.

As there is skin on the wool, I had to sew it on the body on a few places at the edges and then needle fibers from the edge down to the body shape.

There is something special working with an animal that does not have to look like one that is real. Here it can grow more as a coincident out of a basic shape and there are no rules except that it must be able to stand and of course it has a bird´s basic figure. I look forward to work more with this crazy wool. The bird is 29 cm. high.
