I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as "Doll of the month".
The doll has been sold
The doll of the month for February is a “Gipsy Dancer” with all the colors I connect with a temperamental person. She has on the other hand got a very young and innocent face, so it is not easy to know what can be hidden in this little person.
The inspiration came from the wool that I have dyed myself. It is a mix between Finn wool and Gotland wool and the colors get so very deep and brilliant when I dye on that quality.
I have of course dyed the carded wool too, so it fits exactly for the skirt and the hair.
I wanted the gipsy girl to be able to sit in a chosen position, but I also wanted her to be movable, so I have used a technique where I start to make a skeleton out of long soft pipe cleaners. I then wrap a very thin layer of wool around the skeleton and continue with making separate shapes of wool that I needle on this skeleton independently, but in a way that give every shape possibility to move separately. After placing all those shapes on the body I give the whole figure a covering flesh layer and a good surface needling and that ends up with a very movable and alive looking figure. The face is made with the latest technique I made for faces. She is 35 cm high.
The price is $ 210 (USD) and this includes shipping. Only the one dolls is available so if you click on the order-link and the dolls has already been sold you will get an error message.
Click here if you would like to buy the doll. You will be taken to the website of CCNow where you can enter your order details. Your credit card will not be charged untill the doll has been sent.
