It looks like there will be a lot of things to do this month:
Some of my things will be shown at the mess of the firm Creativ Company from May 8-10. Among them my new little theatrefigure.
I am writing on an article for a magazine called "Arts and Craft in the school".
Right now I have finished the last things for my next exhibition, which will take place in Italy at Le Arti Tessili Association in July, where i will give a course too.
Presentation:
Le Arti Tessili Association, founded in 1987, has since ever been active in
the diffusion of textile culture and education. For the purpose of reaching
this ambitious target, the Association proposes and organizes various
activities: exhibitions, publications, seminars and workshops, and the
International Valcellina Award for Young Textile Artists. With regard to the
study and practice of felting, the first courses were held at the
Association seat in Montereale Valcellina (Friuli - Venezia)
I hope that my new book about Animal felt will be ready before my husband and I leave for holiday early June. We combine the holiday with the course I am going to give at Filzrausch in Germany. Right after the course we will start our bikingtour along the river "Weser".
If anyone should happen to pass my workshop this month on a certain day, then you might be very surprised and think that I have made a mistake because the whole room will be decorated with things that belongs to Christmas time. The reason is that there will be made an article for the magazine "Christmas", and I must admit that I am not at all in the mood to dig all those things forward from the boxes now.

Doll of the month - May 2007 |

I am often contacted by visitors who would like to buy dolls they have seen in the picture galleries. But all of these dolls have been made as part of projects or have been pre-ordered a long time before they were made. Due to lack of time I only make a very limited number of dolls each year, but I have decided to make some of these dolls available on Feltmaking.com as "Doll of the month".
The doll of May is from a series of needle felted figures I have made, called ”Soft Granite Women”. My idea is that the doll would fit very well in a winter garden. I have prepared the wool myself and I have chosen very, very course wool to get this raw look. This kind of wool is not very easy to work with and therefore the doll had to have a good size so I was able to shape the little details. This doll is 30 cm high and 30 cm wide.

Today a group of felt makers from the
Swedish
Folk
High School
on the island
Gotland
came to see my workshop.
For one year they are studying felt making at the school and it is probably the only full time felt education in
Scandinavia
. The students are studying felt design as well as felt art and craft. The education lasts one year and is parted in a basic part and a part for specializing.

The doll of April month is a floating being that is ment just to touch the ground with her toes. Here she is dancing in the light of the early spring that is the most beautiful time of the year in Denmark. She is moving like a ballet dancer and therefore she has a nylon string in the top of her head that can be fastened where she is going to hang, so she will move or turn a little when there is a movement in the room.

The Danish felt union has started a felt education where the students after having joined 6 different modules get a certificate. I was teaching needle felt at module number 6 last week-end in new rooms especially equipped for felt making. Some of the students were the first who had joined all the 6 modules and that way they had finished their education. It was a week-end with a lot of fun but also hard work -to manage to learn all the techniques that needle felt consist of. The students made a needled figure in a free chosen position so at the end we had children, old men and women, men from the wood and a ballet dancer.
As you can see on the photo Bente has really got “appetite on the subject” on our way home in the train.
